  "I
am whatever you make me...l am your belief in yourself, your dream of
what a people may
become...I am... an idea, and the reasoned purpose of
resolution. I am no more than you believe me to
be and I am all that you believe I can be. I am whatever
you make me..." Franklin Knight Lane once said
these words about the American flag. His words best
describe what the American flag means to me.
The words say that our flag is part of what makes us what
we are and part of what makes us what we
can become. It says that our country strengthens us,
gives us inspiration, and shows us our life
purpose. For me, the American flag symbolizes hope for
the best and dreams for a better world.
First, the flag is part of what makes us what we are. Our
flag has been here since America came to be. It has been with us through
good times and bad times. It is a symbol of our past, present, and
future. It stands for our freedoms (having our own
religion, being able to vote and run for public office,
allowing us freedom of speech and press). The flag always
reminds me that we are a very lucky people and that we should appreciate
our country and the freedoms it offers us.
Second, the flag shows us what we can become. It is a
symbol of the American dream. The flag
always reminds me to dream big and keep trying to make my
dreams come true. It also gives the
American people a goal and says, "Be better, try hard, be
the best that you can be."
Next, the flag serves as an inspiration to me and the
American people. It is a symbol of our
strength and resolve as a country. The flag tells us
never to give up and be what we want to be. It says
that no matter what our position in life is, we can make
it better. We as a people can make a difference
in our own lives and the lives of other people,
especially those who need help and encouragement.
Mother Teresa once said that doing the little things in a
big way is just as important as doing the big
things. Every time I look at our flag, it reminds me of
what Mother Teresa said.
Finally, when I look at the American flag, I have hope. It is the hope
that America can be an
inspiration for the world. It is a hope that Americans
will work to end all war and encourage others to
work for peace. It is a hope that Americans can live in
harmony with each other, accepting each other's
differences and being happy for who we are. It is a hope
that I, as well as other individuals, can always do our best to be a
symbol of what our American flag stands for: dreams, ideas, purpose,
resolution, Freedom, strengthh, and hope for a better world, America,
love and respect your flag!
