It was during Faithful Navigator Orphe’s
spectacular year that the Assembly was further honored when one of its
members was elected to the office of State Deputy of the Louisiana Knights
of Columbus.
Jack O’Reilly, Jr. was installed n ceremonies held
in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church with State Deputy David B. Bakeler as
the installing officer.
The Assembly and its Color Corp make 43 public
appearances during the Columbian year and participated in all of the
District programs and meetings.
Orphe was instrumental in contacting the office of
Mayor Willie L. Mount to request participation in the City’s sixth
annual “Red, White, Blur and You” celebration and specifically the
fourth of July parade. The fourth of July parade was held at 6:00 p.m.
1999 in Lake Charles.
Presentations on the naming of the Knights of
Columbus, the addition of “under God, in the pledge of allegiance, and
other historically significant events for the Knights were covered at the
planning meetings. The purpose for these presentations was to demonstrate
to the members how important it has been throughout history for the
Knights to be active in all aspects of community and Church activities.
Committees for the development of monthly programs to
commensurate the 100-year birthday of the Knights of Columbus were
appointed and are actively working. Knights were honored by the Assembly o
a monthly basis in recognition of their years of service. The committee
Chairman is Past Master Truman Stacey.
The committee will continue to operate for the rest
of the year 2000. To date 24 Sir Knights have been honored for up to 49
years of service.
