1960-61.
ODEY HEBERT was elected
Faithful Navigator in June of 1960. The election of officers in June of
1960 was held in an atmosphere of excitement following the nomination of
Senator Kennedy as the Democratic candidate for the presidency.
The
candidate's Catholicity had already raised a controversy in Louisiana, and
copies of the infamous "bogus oath" were being circulated. Much
of the assembly's energies during the year were devoted to fighting this
bigotry.
A
number of speakers were scheduled for assembly meetings, including Captain
John (Jack} W. O'Reilly Sr., who led the fight against the "bogus
oath", Dr. Fritz LaCour and Master William Sonnier.
A total of 14
candidates from Msgr. Cramers Assembly were exemplified in Alexandria
