1954-55.
CHARLES J. BENOIT of
Welsh succeeded Price as Faithful Navigator in July of 1954. He was the
first head of the assembly who was not a member of Calcasieu Council 1207.
Perhaps
the most outstanding example of Color Corps participation during Faithful
Navigator Benoit's term was the furnishing of a Guard of Honor for the
final field service for the Marian Year observance, held in the McNeese
Arena. A crowd of 11,000 attended this gigantic rally, with the Most Rev.
Maurice Schexnayder, Auxiliary Bishop of Lafayette, attending. The sermon
at this huge gathering was delivered by Msgr. Louis H. Boudreaux, pastor
of Immaculate Conception Parish as well as the assembly's Faithful Friar.
The rally was sponsored by all ofthe Knights of Columbus groups in
the Lake Charles area.
The assembly celebrated its loth birthday with a banquet at the Majestic
Hotel. More than 100 attended to hear C.J.G. McDonald of the Lake Charles
Air Force Base deliver a stirring address on Patriotism.
The assembly participated in a "Living Rosary" at McNeese and
joined in celebration with three members ofthe clergy. Two newly-ordained
priests, the Rev. Joseph Jaubert and the Rev. Joseph Bourque, celebrated
their first Masses in Lake Charles with an assembly Guard of Honor
present. The Rev. Eugene C. VeUlard, MS, a new member of the assembly,
celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood, and
the assembly mounted a Guard of Honor for the occasion.
A total of 23 new members joined the assembly during the annual
exemplification in New Orleans.
