HARRY E. BENEFIEL, a
former head of the Department of Commerce at McNeese State College,
followed Broussard as Faithful Navigator and carried on most ofthe regular
programs. A new venture was an outdoor barbecue honoring all Past Faithful
Navigators, which proved a huge success. .
Duringthis administration, a new
assembly was formed in Crowley, resulting in the transfer of 25 Sir Knights
to Msgr. Mollo Assembly. All 25 Sir Knights were members of the Jennings
and Lake Arthur councils. As a recovery, however, 17 new members were
exemplified in July of 1953.
Benefiel later entered the seminary to
study for the priesthood and became the first Sir Knight of the state to
receive Holy Orders. He served a distinguished career in the Diocese of
Lafayette before retiring in 1989
