1951-52.
By the time ALCIDE L. BROUSSARD was elected Faithful
Navigator in June of 1951, the assembly had grown large enough and
experienced in leadership enough to hold its own with other assemblies.
Faithful Navigator Moreau left office with the assembly membership
numbering 178 after his two-year term of office.
Broussard, who headed a farm implement
firm in Lake Charles, followed in the footsteps of his predecessors in
carrying out programs already established. The major public appearance of
the assembly's Color Corps was at the Family Rosary crusade, a gathering
of 6,000 Catholics, held in M cNeese Arena and presided over by the Most
Rev. Jules P. Jeanmard, Bishop of Lafayette.
During the year, the assembly also
sponsored a testimonial dinner honoring the Most Rev. Maurice Schexnayder,
the recently appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Lafayette.
The assembly also purchased two benches to be used by parents and guests
visiting students at Immaculate Seminary.
Faithful Navigator Broussard also instituted the practice of assigning
two members of the assembly to recite the Rosary daily for an increase in
religious vocations. This task was rotated among members throughout the
year.
Twenty new members were added to the assembly's rolls at the July 6th
Bxemplification ofthe Fourth Degree. Among them were future Faithful
Navigators Paul Reichley and J.W. O'ReiUy Sr., and JeffDavis Parish
District Attorney Bernard Marcantel
